Hohe Tauern National Park
The Rauris Valley lies at the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park, which is only 30 years young. 30 years of busy commitment by numerous nature lovers, supported by the provincial governments of Salzburg, Tyrol and Carinthia, gave this big scenic highlight in the Alps the chance to preserve its fauna and flora to a large extent. One year ago, for example, a sensation took place: after 25 years of the “reintroduction project of bearded vultures in the Alpine region“, in the Kruml Valley near Rauris the first chick hatched in the wild in the Hohe Tauern. The newly constructed educational trail “King of the Skies” is only one of the many examples of the variety the National Park boasts. You can also find all the interesting facts surrounding the biggest birds of prey of the Alps in the modern exhibition in the National Park House in Rauris, “King of the Skies”. People of all ages can explore the protected mountain region with its huge abundance of animal and plant species on an exciting tour accompanied by National Park rangers.
